In the past, every time I was visiting my site, I always wonder if it load slow just for me or does it also affect you, BOOM Nation. When doing a google speed test or any speed benchhmark on my site, I was never satisfied with the results.
I finally decided to switch hosting to see if that would make any difference. Well It did! Here is a speed test for mobile device and desktop I did 2 days ago with the Google Speed test:
Old Speed with Previous Hosting
Then yesterday, after switching to WPengine, I did another test without changing anything to my site and here are the new results:
New Speed With WpEngine.com
This is almost 10 speed points increase!
I also ran a bunch of benchmark speed test before and after because i wanted to see the effect of changing hosting with them.
The first test above with Google was pretty amazing but I also ran a test with Pingdom.com below and I had an increase of 50% in load time.
Old Host – load time of 4.58 seconds
New Host – load time of 2.6 seconds
I ran another test with Pagescoring.com Again the increase in speed is quite impressive.
BEFORE – load time of 8.95 seconds
AFTER – Load time of 4.72 seconds
So my site load basically 50% faster on almost all the test! I was blown away when I ran the test again. This is pretty amazing considering that I didn’t change anything to my site beside switching my host over to WPengine.
The secret formula to super fast speed
WPengine is not your normal hosting company that offer you a gazillion of option. They are only optimized for wordpress sites.
They don’t try to accomodate everyone. Actually, if you don’t run a wordpress site, you cannot use their hosting.
This means that their server architecture are design with the only purpose of making your wordpress site load faster. I can attest to you that they deliver on their speed promise!
Trash your old plugins
WpEngine have their own caching system that is optimized for their server. They actually won’t allow you to use w3cache or other caching plugins. This allow them to optimize all the resources of the server for an optimal speed.
Sleep at night
WpEngine take care of the backup for you. That means that you don’t have to worry about your site being hacked or loosing any data if something were to happen. Everything is backed up daily and I never have to think about it.
Support team on point
They have a live chat support (nothing new here) but there customer support team is on point. I had a few questions about my wordpress site and Danh, one of their support team located in Texas, was very helpful.
Since they are experts with wordpress sites, Danh was very knowledgable about my situation and he was able to quickly help me with transfering my site over.
So what should you do?
If you are just starting out, a shared hosting plan like hostgator should work just fine. But if you have an existing blog and you are serious about your business, then Wpengine is definitly what you need.
I only recommend what I use and WPEngine is what Alexfortin.com is hosted on right now and i’m blown away by my new site speed.(you can test it yourself)
Hosting speed always have been a worry for me. I always wanted to switch but I didn’t know if it was worth the investment. After switching I can assure you that it is well worth it.
I’ll keep my other sites on share hosting, but i’m keeping alexfortin.com on WPengine.
