I’m writting this post sipping on my bullet proof coffee. It is 11:39 Am and I haven’t had breakfast yet despite the fact that I woke up over 4 hours ago. This is because of the “magic” inside the Bullet Proof Coffee.
Why bulletproof coffee?
The reason why bulletproof coffee work so well is that it doesn’t rely on carbohydrates to give you energy but instead on fat. In the morning, most people eat toast, cereal, fruits or other food filled with carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are not bad in themselseves but they are a very unreliable source of energy.
Once you put those carbs into your stomach, they are broken down into simple sugar. Those simple sugar are absorbed by your bloodstream. Because of this surge of carbs in your bloodstream, your body release insulin to bring down your level of sugar in your blood.
The problem, is that this insulin release will bring your level of sugar to practically zero in your blood stream…. This low sugar level makes you crave for carbs again, you eat carbs and your level of sugar spike, which makes you release insulin… it becomes a never ending cycle.
To overcome this problem, you need to replace your main source of energy. From carbohydrate rollercoster to longlasting fat energy. So I replace my Carbohydrate eating habits to healthy fat like olive oil, coconut oil and grass fed butter.
Our body hasn’t evolved to eat grains
Our body has not evolved to digest processed carbohydrate like bread and cereal. The human species evolved over a 1.5 millions year and agriculture started to be widespread only 5000 years ago. Before that, we only ate meat, nuts, some leaves, mushroom and wild fruits depending on the season. Carbohydrates only started to be a big part of our calorie intake very recently in the history of the human species.
Fat is the best source of energy
Fat is easy to store in our body and it is readily available when you need it. Carbohydrate on the other hand cannot be store and the only way to get it is to break down our body fat, transform it into polysacharide, then break it down again into monosacharyde so it can enter the bloodstream and be absorbded. A much more complicated and non-efficient process.
Fat is also a much more reliable source of energy than carbohydrate. It doesn’t spike your insulin and you have an almost infinite source of it. I do eat carbs everyday, but I wait until late in the afternoon to eat them.
Fasting on bulletproof coffee
When I drink a bulletproof coffee in the morning, I can last 4-5 hours without having to eat anything else because the fat it contains really fill me up. I sometimes drink 2 cup of this delicious beverage and really don’t feel the hunger until much later.
Personally, the morning is one of my high productive period of the day. So if I can sit down for a few hours without having to take a break to snack or eat, it helps me achieve a lot more.
I’ve been on and off the bullet proof coffee for the past 12 months for different reasons and every time I go back to it, it makes me realize how much I missed it.
Here’s a video of how I do the bullet proof coffee.
Bullet Proof Coffee ingredients:

Bullet proof coffee instructions:

Bullet proof coffee is becoming more and more popular for entrepreneur conscious of their health. I do think that online entrepreneur are a special bread of people looking for healthy lifestyle. Bulletproof coffee is the perfect beverage for them.
Is your coffee safe?
To really brew the perfect cup of coffee, Dave Asprey suggest to use is bulletproof coffee beans. It is is personal brand and this is where the controversy start. Dave Asprey says that commercial coffee contain a toxic amount of micotoxin that are mold that form into coffee and grains. Dave says that is special brand of coffee doesn’t contain any micotoxin.
Joe Rogan was promoting the bulletproof coffee on his Podcast for a while. After a few complains from is viewer, he decided to analysed some well known brand of coffee looking for micotoxin and is results were that there was no micotoxin to be found.
So is micotoxin a marketing stunts by Dave Asprey to sell is branded coffee or is it really something we are ingesting on a regular basis without us knowing, I still yet to see clear evidence of this. So until then, I will keep on drinking my comercial coffee.
Give it a try.
There is no doubt that the bulletproof coffee will increase your energy in the morning and give you the boost you need to perform to the maximum during your day.
If you are looking to get more energy in the morning you should definitely give a try to the bullet proof coffee if you haven’t yet. Let me know what you think in the comment below!
Hi Alex
Is there any particular reason you’re using coconut oil over MCT? Asprey actually recommends MCT specifically and I find the coconut oil really detracts from the taste.
Coconut oil has a, technically, contains around 65% MCTs. MCTs have a wide array of benefits and eating some everyday is an excellent idea. However, 50% of those MCTs are Lauric acid, C12. C12 is the very longest MCT and actually acts much more like a long chain triglyceride. Despite the fact that C12 has a array of health benefits pure MCT is a more optimal choice of you’re looking for the benefits of those C10 & C8 chains.
You should be abel to get MCT oil from most health food stores. It add a nice thickness to butter coffee without the overpowering taste present in coconut oil.
Coconut oil should still be part of your diet and is excellent for cooking due to it’s high burning point.
Love the blog brother
Hey Jesse
I was going with coconut because its more readily available here in VietNam. i agree with you, it does have a strong taste and it detract of the coffee taste when i put too much. I’ll try mct oil on my next batch for sure! Thanks for liking the blog!
Cheers!
